Why do we need Second Conditional

SECOND CONDITIONAL

We have two different parts in second conditional . One is If clause and the other one is the main clause.

The formula goes like this :

If + past simple , Would + verb

Or

Would+ verb if+ past simple

** If the IF CLAUSE comes second, there is no need for a comma

Now let’s see what we are talking about :

I really like to be a rich person. But at the moment , I’m not! But imagine I am rich. What would I do with my money ? This is how we use second conditional to talk about our dreams :

If I were rich, I would build hospitals and I would open a bookstore and I would help poor people.

I’m talking with one of my friends. She wants to tell lies in her resume. I put myself in her shoes :

If I were you, I wouldn’t tell lies in my resume! That is risky!

** NB : We use “were” with different pronouns in second conditional. If you use “was” for I/She/HE , it is not wrong but it is better to use “were” .
